Insulators

Materials that are highly resistive to electron flow are called insulators. In insulators, electrons are tightly bound to their atoms and have very little freedom to move around. Due to restrictive movement of electrons, the current does not flow through insulators.

The following are a few examples for good insulators.

  • Rubber
  • Glass
  • Oil
  • Asphalt
  • Fiberglass
  • Porcelain
  • Ceramic
  • Quartz
  • (Dry) cotton
  • (Dry) paper
  • (Dry) wood
  • Plastic
  • Air
  • Diamond
  • Pure water
