Tension

The force that tends to stretch a material is called as a tensile force and the material is said to be in tension. Ties are the structures that are designed to take tensile load. The aircraft designers are keen on tensile loads as metals and design techniques can manage with this load types. The concept of tension is shown in the figure below.
