Electricity is defined as a form of energy operated by the transfer of charged particles from positive and negative points. It can occur either statically as a charge accumulation or dynamically as a current. It exists all around us as a natural phenomenon in various forms. This flow of electric charge is widely used for supplying power to electric devices, automobiles and other gadgets we use in day-to-day life.
Effects of Electricity
The occurrence of electricity can be noticed due to several effects that are discussed below.
- Mechanical effect: Most devices such as electric blender and vacuum cleaner use motor, which are powered up by electricity.
- Thermal effect: This effect plays a vital role in the use of everyday household appliances such as electric cooker, heater and so on. In this, an electric current is passed over the conductor raising the temperature to the required level. The luminous effect can also be achieved by heating mechanism of the current.
- Magnetic effect: When an electric current passes through the wire, it generates magnetic field. This effect is widely used in speakers and vehicle central locking systems.
- Chemical effect: This is seen in electroplating process in which metal plates are joined together to mainly avoid corrosion in addition to decorative purposes.
- Physiological effect: Our body experiences electric shock when comes in contact with the electric circuits. This is highly dangerous and can be fatal as it affects the nervous system. However this effect is used in treating various nerve related diseases.
