Disadvantages of Adhesives

The major disadvantages associated with adhesive bonding are:

• Limited heat resistance is the major problem. This restricts the process to applications where environmental temperatures will not be above 200ºC.
• Poor electrical and thermal conductivity.
• High thermal expansion.
• Limited resistance to certain chemicals (i.e. some paint strippers).
• Integrity difficult to check with non-destructive testing procedures.
