It is important to have a good understanding about the tools that are used in aircraft and related industry.

A tool is a device that is used to perform manual or mechanical work. An aviation engineer uses a wide range of hand tools to accomplish maintenance tasks. The following are some of the tools available used on the broader classification.

Servicing an aircraft requires the dismantling, cleaning, examination, adjustment and re-assembly of the parts in accordance with the maintenance schedule. Further aspects of the work may require the manufacture of simple components from metal or other materials, the drilling and tapping of holes, removal of burrs and other operations. A reasonable degree of skill in the use of hand tools is therefore expected from all trades-persons. This skill can only be obtained by practice, but it may be stated that the more efficient the tool is, the better will be the finished work.
